Importing Chinese solar into Brazil: FAQ

Procurement, certification, and logistics questions answered.

QWhat is the current import duty on solar modules into Brazil?

Brazil reinstated a 10.8% import tariff on PV modules in March 2024 to support domestic assembly. Inverters carry an 18% tariff. ICMS state taxes apply on top, reclaimable for registered importers.

QDo I need INMETRO certification?

Yes. INMETRO Ordinance 004/2011 (and updates) requires PV modules sold in Brazil to be certified through accredited labs. All tier-1 Chinese brands carry valid INMETRO certificates; verify the model number matches the certificate.

QWhat's the typical sea freight time from Shanghai to Santos?

38–45 days via the Cape of Good Hope. Suez routing adds another 5–8 days due to Red Sea diversions in 2025. Build 12–14 weeks total lead time.
